As the founder of Backbeat Berlin, Mesut draws on a rich career both as a musician as well as an educator.
With act such as East Cameron Folkcore (USA), Jackie Charles (NO), Madeleine Duke (AUS), Tubbe and Roman Fischer, he has been touring worldwide including gigs on Festivals like Rock am Ring, Rock im Park, Hurricane, Southside, Serengeti, Haldern Pop and Oyafestival (NO). Cities he played in include Amsterdam, Budapest, Istanbul, Kiew, Lausanne, London, Melbourne, Oslo, Paris, Sydney, Vienna and Zurich. He released numerous records on several labels on drums, synths and as a songwriter.
At the age of nine, Mesut began teaching himself drums and guitar, influenced by the Hardcore and Metal bands of the era. From 15 years on he was already touring throughout Germany and from 18 years on internationally. The styles of his playing expanded to Indie Rock, Fusion and Jazz. After taking private lessons with different teachers, he graduated with excellence at the Downtown Music Institute, Augsburg on drums and piano in 2004, where he gained his first experiences as a teacher soon after.
Additionally, he participated in various Workshops und Masterclasses – among others with Will Calhoun, Mark Guiliana, Marco Minnemann, Mark Schulman, Steve Smith and Dave Weckl.
Private Lessons were taken with Jojo Mayer as well as with John Riley at the Manhattan School of Music, New York.
After moving to Berlin in 2008, he soon started to grow his teaching base, resulting in Backbeat Berlin.
Besides one-on-one lessons, Mesut is likewise experienced in Band Coaching, courses for Drum Tuning , Music Theory , Music Production and Music Software.
Mesut is also teaching in the pro-course of Drumtrainer Berlin, specialised on the “Drums and Electronics” workshop series.
